Winner Stands Alone - Paulo Coelho

I got it as a christmasgift.. It's an interesting read. Not something I'd usually pick up myself, but not something I'd throw out of the window either. The story tells about different people somehow tangled in the net of Hollywood and money, and how money and power manipulate people.

Almost done this finally.  It's been on my bookshelf for a long time, but I just never found the time, until this holiday season, to get through the whole thing.

Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution.  I read this series off and on and then go back to check them.  The historical ones are pretty accurate, the scientific ones not so much.  Next up is World War Z which I got for Christmas.

Just finshed reading "Memories of the Future: Volume 1" by Wil Wheaton... Freakin' hilarious, especially if - like me - you grew up on ST:TNG.

The Book of Lies by Brad Meltzer

Its one of those books you have to read alot of before the plot of the book comes in to play, its ok, but it's still a bit confusing

The Girl Who Played With Fire

Amazon Best of the Month, July 2009: The girl with the dragon tattoo is back. Stieg Larsson's seething heroine, Lisbeth Salander, once again finds herself paired with journalist Mikael Blomkvist on the trail of a sinister criminal enterprise. Only this time, Lisbeth must return to the darkness of her own past (more specifically, an event coldly known as "All the Evil") if she is to stay one step ahead--and alive. The Girl Who Played with Fire is a break-out-in-a-cold-sweat thriller that crackles with stunning twists and dismisses any talk of a sophomore slump. Fans of Larsson's prior work will find even more to love here, and readers who do not find their hearts racing within the first five pages may want to confirm they still have a pulse. Expect healthy doses of murder, betrayal, and deceit, as well as enough espresso drinks to fuel downtown Seattle for months

Columbus, Georgia, 1865: The Last True Battle of the Civil War

http://www.amazon.com/Columbus-Georgia-1865-Battle-Civil/dp/0817316760/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272932750&sr=8-1

In this work, Charles A. Misulia, a lifelong student of the Civil War and expert on the Battle of Columbus, provides a comprehensive study of the Easter Sunday, April 16, 1865, conflict. The struggle occurred in the dark of night, extended over a mile and half through a series of forts and earthworks, and was finally decided in an encounter on a bridge a thousand feet in length. Misulia presents the first complete account of this battle, examining and recounting in depth not only the composition and actions of the contending forces, which numbered some three thousand men on each side, but meticulously detailing the effect of the engagement on the city of Columbus and its environs. As such, this book fills in an important detail in the grand account of our cataclysmic national struggle and also adds a significant chapter to the history of an important regional city. In addition, Misulia bravely takes on the long-vexing question of which encounter should be seen as the last 'battle' of the Civil War and argues persuasively that Columbus, Georgia, qualifies for this distinction on a number of counts.

****

I grew up and still live in Columbus so this book really interested me.  Even with the history I did know about this town, I never realized how important a place it was until April 16, 1865.  The Civil War, and this final battle, really tore this town down to nothing and made it rebuild almost from scratch.

I'll have to check that one out, Juju... I enjoyed The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

It starts like the last one, a bit slow with business talk but slowly becomes quite a page turner..Iam enjoying it, and have pre ordered the third and last book "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest"

I really like the author's style, its too bad he's dead :(

Portuguese writer Jose Saramago, winner of 1998 Nobel, dies

For those of Us who were in the VS book club remember reading his book blindness. It was an interesting book to say the least.

RIP Jose
