Second she can have any life she chooses to have. We can't let things like this stop us from living our lives.
Not to be callous, but I don't think she can live any life she chooses to have.
She can't do much without the help of lots of other people; she can't see, she has no use of her hands, etc. This means that she really has no way to earn a living, no way to provide for herself, limited ability to cook food, or perform daily grooming/cleaning actions, etc.
She's entirely reliant on others for her well-being, and I don't know if I could live like that, and I think a lot of other people who were once self-reliant and no longer are have a lot of trouble dealing with such a transition.
