Obama accepts Nobel as 'call to action'
President Obama said today he was "surprised and deeply humbled" to win the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. "I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments. But rather as an affirmation of American leadership. ... I will accept this award as a call to action.

I think they gave it to him of hope or better things to be.

Still, hope, a nice word with a wonderful meaning. but unless someone is in there grinding shit, hope is useless.

I can't say he deserves it NOW. We'll see if, and hope..., he can make himself worthy.

I say I just think it was much too early and thats whats annoying people. He probably will do something worth it in the future. But 9 months into his term, its all miniscule things. If they were to give it next year or the year after, for all we know he could have ended the war or caused world peace or something.

I have had quite a few arguments about this today in different places.  Most consisted of me being called a racist because I didn't think he deserved it yet, but one guy brought up a point.  Obama worked for peace before he was President.  I haven't been able to get anyone to give me anything other than a couple fo political speeches but if someone can find something showing he did actual work for peace as opposed to just saying he would have voted against the Iraq War if given the chance, I would be open to changing my opinion.  Of course in 4 different places so far no one has come up with anything but hope springs eternal.

Here in Canada we keep hearing talks of him and Harper of possibly sending more troops into Afghanistan its not for sure but if he does I think that would be a big slap in the face of this prize. He says he keeps wanting this war over but when he has had the chance to vote on a pull out he voted against it. I'm really starting to think he is all talk and no action but then again its only 9 months we will see.

He wants to lose the war. Even after all of his talking about this being the good war, the war that needed more attention. He had the chance and seems to have decided that this is a war he wants to lose.

What about the troops going back to Iraq?  We have guys leaving out of Ft Mitchell over the next few weeks for their fourth tour over there.  All told, I heard it was about 10,000 going into Iraq from the states and upwards of 40,000 going to Afghanistan (some from Iraq to Afghanistan, others rotating in from stateside as some come home from Iraq).

I looked, but I can find anything he did within his first 11 days in office (which is when the nominations had to be in) that would warrant a freakin' Nobel Prize.
